Water-Insoluble Ammonium Polyphosphate
-- Steady & Reliable Manufacturer --
Introduction
Early-type ammonium polyphosphate dissolves readily in water, which limits its use in humid environments, outdoor products, and water-based systems. Water-insoluble ammonium polyphosphate refers to crystalline phase II APP with a long polymer chain and very low solubility, often further improved by surface treatment.
Low solubility matters for several reasons. In coatings, it limits viscosity drift and sedimentation over time. In polymers, it reduces water extraction and surface bloom. In finished products, it keeps flame retardancy from washing out when parts are exposed to moisture, rain, or condensation.
We control the degree of polymerization, crystal form, and particle size to deliver consistent solubility from batch to batch, and tighter solubility limits can be offered on request.

Application
Water-insoluble APP is selected where the final product will be exposed to moisture or where water-based processing is involved.
- Water-based intumescent coatings: Interior and exterior paints for steel structures, wood, and boards.
- Polyolefin compounds: PP and PE parts and profiles used in humid or outdoor environments.
- Sealants and adhesives: Fire-rated sealants and construction adhesives.
- Rubber and elastomers: Halogen-free flame retardant for conveyor belts and sealing profiles.
- Textile back-coatings and nonwovens: Fire-retardant finishing where wash-out resistance matters.
Advantages
- Low water solubility: Reduces leaching and extraction in damp, outdoor, or washing conditions.
- Stable viscosity: Less viscosity drift and sedimentation in water-based coatings during storage.
- High thermal stability: Long-chain structure holds up through compounding temperatures.
- Low migration: Less surface bloom over the service life of molded and coated parts.
- Consistent quality: Solubility, particle size, and phosphorus content are tested on every batch.
